I helped translate NBA 2K’s MyTEAM from console to mobile, first seen with the launch of NBA2k24 MyTEAM on the mobile platform. I designed the foundational UX evident in the Pack Market and the Home Screen framework while introducing mobile-first patterns such as a bottom navigation bar, streamlined FTUE, and clear call-to-action flows, contributions that shaped the product’s launch experience and informed future 2K mobile design standards.
Role:Â UI UX Designer
Project:Â NBA2k MyTEAM Mobile Development (2022)Â
Situation: The goal was to redesign the MyTEAM mobile onboarding into a smooth, confidence-building experience that guided early skill development, ensured first-game success, clarified progression, and aligned seamlessly with the console experience. This effort faced collaboration challenges between Visual Concepts and the 2K mobile team, as the console group resisted mobile standards, creating communication gaps and fragmented development. With limited cross-team involvement, I worked closely with product management and independently defined mobile-first design patterns, balancing the console legacy with the distinct behaviors and needs of mobile players.
Task:Â I was responsible for bridging collaboration gaps between Visual Concepts and the 2K mobile team by defining a MyTEAM mobile design direction that respected the console franchise while meeting mobile best practices. This required independently developing core design patterns, aligning stakeholders around mobile standards, and translating the console experience into an intuitive mobile framework that supported different player behaviors and interaction needs.
Action:Â To bring the MyTEAM console experience to mobile, I designed wireframes and end to end flows in Figma that adapted the interface for touch. I introduced larger buttons, simplified layouts, bottom navigation for one handed use, and a prominent play CTA to reduce friction at entry. I partnered closely with the Product Manager to define the FTUE and overall user flow, applying mobile best practices and competitor insights from EA Sports to preserve the console experience while improving usability, accessibility, and engagement on mobile.
Result:Â In April 2022, I delivered a comprehensive set of wireframes and UX flows that brought the MyTEAM experience to mobile for the first time, emphasizing clear hierarchy, simplified navigation, and a strong primary CTA. When NBA2K24 Mobile launched in December 2023, key elements from this work were implemented, including the Home Screen layout, FTUE, team naming flow, and pack market interface. As NBA2K25 and NBA2K26 Mobile evolved, the continued use of these foundations validated the original design framework, resulting in a cohesive, intuitive mobile experience that preserved the console franchise identity while adapting it for touch.
